How to Gain Muscle and Lose Fat

The 3 Week Diet

Although the diet pill industry would have you believe differently, you can actually control the muscle building and fat minimizing parts of your body. By disciplining a few habits, you can easily gain muscle and lose fat at the same time.

The following muscle building tips will help you accomplish this:

For a Well-Rounded Body, Have Well-Rounded Workouts

If you want to gain muscle and lose fat and keep it off, your workouts must consist of strength training, cardio, stretching and lean muscle training. Each of these different types of training builds off of and accentuates the positive results of the others.

For instance, high energy strength training, which most people do not consider a fat burning exercise, actually helps the body to burn calories for up to a 72 hour period after the initial work out.

Combined with cardio, this fat burning process can actually extend beyond that three-day period and create even more fat churning in the body.

You Need the Right Fuels

Losing fat does not mean starving yourself. As a matter of fact, if you do starve yourself, you are just as likely to put your body in a state of hibernation that will make it hold onto more fat rather than get rid of it.

Make sure that you eat a big breakfast and stay hydrated throughout the day, especially in the hot summer months. Although you can take supplements along with meals, do not make them substitutes.

Also, make sure that you eat in small doses. Six small meals a day when you are trying to lose fat and gain muscle is better than three large meals a day, an activity which will train your body to hibernate for short periods of time.

Keep Up a Constant Rate of Activity

In order to gain muscle and lose fat the same time, you must create a true change in your lifestyle. You must do more than fool your body into believing that it needs more muscle and less fat – you must actually live a lifestyle that requires your body to do this.

This can be accomplished through some everyday activities. Instead of taking the escalator, go up the stairs. Instead of waiting on the automatic revolving door, open the door for yourself. Stand up while you are working instead of sitting down.

Stretch Before and After Every Workout

In order to balance your body in the correct way, you must make sure to stretch before and after every workout. Since many of your workouts will be high intensity, you need to bring your body down slowly in order to give it the right signals.

The low intensity slowdown is just as important as the high intensity portion of your workout when it comes to building muscle and losing fat.

High-intensity workouts burn calories faster. Low intensity, consistent workouts turn your body into a fat burning machine.

Stretching will help to balance the effects of both so that the body will continue these efforts and create a momentum for you.
